If you had any questions about Travis Kelce being an absolute baller after this weeks episode, then watch his Week 3 game and see if those questions were answered. Hopefully, the Ravens players start tuning into YNK, because they could use some positive thinking after that Chiefs waxing. Here are some ways Kelce stays winning both on, and off, the field:
Become an absolute expert.
Towards the end of the episode, Kelce expressed the importance of honing in on what you are good at doing. It doesn’t matter if you are a pro athlete, a doctor, a teacher, you name it. If you want to become better in a specific life pursuit, it is vital to commit your time most efficiently. For Kelce, he mentioned this philosophy paying off in his senior year at Cincinnati as he left partying and drinking in the dust to focus on getting to the NFL.
Know your support system.
Kelce revealed his troubles that happened at the beginning of his college career to show how he learned to overcome obstacles. When he found out he would have to sit an entire year because of a failed NCAA drug test, Kelce was honest in letting listeners know he was not in the best place mentally. The main thing that kept him up through it all? Going to his family. When he told his parents and brother about the suspension, they helped Kelce turn his experience into a learning lesson. It was a long process, but once Kelce got back on his feet, he began to see his vision of playing in the NFL retake shape.
Understand who you are.
Many NFL players struggle when they get out of the league because they have associated their identities with only what they have done on the field. Kelce understands the mental repercussions of this mindset. Instead, he reiterates to himself and others that he is not defined by how well he catches a football. Kelce loves fashion, he loves giving back to others, and he loves the thrill of competition. Try writing down some words that define who you are.
Mike and Kelce know life is all about personal victories. They work to build upon what they are good at one step at a time. And in the process, they make sure they are having fun on their journey.
Work hard, play hard. Just do not use that as excuse for why you got thrown in jail that one time.
As always, thank you to all our listeners out there. Special thanks to Jon Kilmer and the rest of the team for making this all come to life.
