Ya Neva Know: you know what I mean? is a lifestyle podcast hosted by Mike Stud. It’s a show about athletes, entrepreneurs, artists and the adversity they have overcome to turn their dreams into reality. This week, Mike sits down with The Steves to talk current news. They later get a call-in from Cleveland Indians pitcher Mike Clevinger to get his point of view on the Houston Astros cheating scandal.
These Days We’re In
Coronavirus, TikTok, The Grammys, and Kobe’s legacy. The Steves sit down to chat up the biggest news in the past couple of weeks and give some extra thoughts to consider.
- How is the Chinese government handling the Coronavirus? What kind of technology are they using to help fight its spreading?
- Who decides the artists that win Grammy’s? What kind of snubs did we see this year?
- What should we do to honor Kobe Bryant’s legacy going forward? How did he learn to commit his profession in basketball at such a young age?
These are some of the questions the guys give their two-cents on for the first half of the show.
Mike Clevinger Call-In
For the second half of the episode, Mike Clevinger joins the Steve Hotline to talk baseball and the Houston Astros cheating scandal.
A prominent pitcher for the Cleveland Indians, Clevinger has been a part of their dominant starting rotation for the past several years—one of which that led them to a World Series appearance in 2016.
Clevinger first caught flack from Astro fans after a bad start last season when he explained to reporters that the Astros’ offense was not as historically significant as commentators were saying. The chance of a pitcher having a bad day on the mound can happen any day due to the high skill level of hitters in the MLB. What affirmed Clevinger’s statement, even more, was an inside tip that the Astros were stealing signs in some unknown way. Together, he and fellow teammate Trevor Bauer were the first to be suspicious of the Astros performance and continue to speak out on it even now.
A lot of guys showed love about it, especially a lot of guys in the minor leagues. The guys that are going through the show right now are the ones that really needed that thing to get out. They couldn’t have that voice.
Mike Clevinger on deciding to speak out against the Astros
Clevinger knows what it takes to get to the big leagues, and he can’t help but think how many players were affected by this scandal. Regardless of what the league’s punishment will be in the end, Clevinger stood up to represent those who truly could not afford a bad game in their career. He stood up to make sure nobody forgets about this tarnishing of the game.
